Finished Simplicity 1803

My only other thoughts are that I shortened the hem by 2 inches and hand tacked the back facing to the zipper tape so it doesn’t stick out. It’s not perfect and it’s extra obvious in white fabric but I’m still happy with this pattern. I will be making this again in the future with a muslin first to figure out how to lower the armhole a little. Thanks for reading!

Actually, one more note! I just remembered I cannot normally zipper this dress up on my own! I can only do it when I use the ‘thread a ribbon through the hole in the zipper’ trick. Then after I get it on, I can’t get it off without help. Does this mean I have short arms? Or the dress is too high up on me? Have you sewed this pattern and had the same experience??

  1. Awesome dress, awesome job! This is making me want to mix up my fabrics when making a dress instead of doing it all in one fabric.

    1. Thanks RED! I was inspired by a bunch of posts I saw where people mix up fabrics too. Lol in fact I’m pretty sure one of them was the Moneta you made for your friend πŸ™‚

      1. LOL I forgot I did that, too! I actually bought some more fabric and one is a denim-y greenish knit that I’ll probably use for the skirt portion of yet another Moneta. πŸ˜‰

  2. Looks super cute! I haven’t made this one but your version makes me want to give it a try. As for the zipper, it could be too high up, I’d look at other similar garments to judge. As for making it easier, maybe you could add a cute dangle to the zipper?

    1. Thanks Jae! You should totally give it a try πŸ™‚ All the versions I’ve seen online are gorgeous. The zipper might be a little high but finally figured out the right way to stretch and zip it up on my own haha. Otherwise, the cute dangle will be my backup plan. Thanks for the suggestion!

  3. There you go, great job! Again, the dress looks perfect and you look perfect in it! I also love the fabric choice. Such a cute dress I’d like to give it a try one day. Lol, so many sewing goals!

    1. Thanks Marielle! Haha the sleeves are still bothering me, but I just hide that with a cardigan πŸ˜› You should totally try it. Btw, I just added another link I found to Free Patterns for a Yellow Tail cami. If you haven’t you might want to check it out, haha. I lovveeee it. Just to pile some more on top of your sewing goals lol!

      1. Yeah, what are cardigans for? I will definitely try it but I still can’t find the fabric I like. Prague doesn’t really have big fabric stores. Then again maybe it’s better this way or I’ll just go crazy hoarding fabrics and free patterns left and right haha! Yes, checked out the yellow tail cami and it’s sooo cute! Already piled on top of my ever growing pile, thanks to you lol!

  4. Such a gorgeous dress! The fabric is amazing and it fits you perfectly. I’m not sure what to say about the zipper issue. Interesting…
