I had originally wanted to make a simple boxy top to go with the shorts and do a full outfit post, however the top went terribly wrong (mostly just being way too big and the shoulders are inches off) so I am bummed and going to keep this short to just the shorts.
I have always a pair of floral shorts as they are practical but still cute and feminine but because I rarely shop at malls and don’t dare to order pants online, it never happened. When I found this awesome print on Fabric.com, I knew I had to try and make my own.
I love the print! Wish I had a million more yards of it ๐ The only downside here was the accidental awkward pattern matching and pattern placement. You can’t unsee it can you? I might just wear longer tops from now on and let just a little of the shirts peek out…
Multiple side views because it’s less awkward from the side.
Invisible zipper looking fairly invisible.
The inside has underlining rather than lining because I noticed a lot of RTW shorts I own are not lined so I didn’t bother. I did underline because the floral fabric is see through and I wanted to hide the darts.
Crotch is a little wonky but overall still love the print too much to care. I have just enough left over to give it another try someday with fitting corrections and maybe some pockets ๐
That is cute fabric!
Thanks Linda!
Oh, I love the fabric you selected. I can see what you mean with the pattern matching at the front. Yes, slightly longer top.. sorted! ๐ Very cute, well done!
Thanks Astrid, hearing that makes me feel better about my fabric shopping addiction lol! Well, I learned to think twice when sewing with floral. Thanks ๐
I loved what you selected to go with the shorts. The black shoes are gorgeous! Glam casual chic ๐ I haven’t done any pattern matching thus far, now I can see how accidents can happen. But very cute shorts!
Thanks Sil ๐ They are my favorite shoes, I was hoping they’d distract people from the pattern matching incident. Guess it worked a little, haha. Thanks!
Great shorts. I have a denim pair cut out and ready to sew using the same pattern. I hope they turn out as well as yours did. The denim is pretty thick – not sure I’m going to line them either, since I don’t want them to be too bulky. I love the print you chose!
Thanks and good luck! I’m sure it’ll turn out great. Now you have me wanting a pair of Jean shorts too ๐
I love these! I really want to make a pair like this for summer. Great choice of fabric. And I don’t think the pattern matching looks as bad as you think at all
Thanks! Hope you find some awesome fabric too. With your jeans skills, I’m sure this will be a breeze to whip up ๐
WOW, these are really lovely, and although I know what you mean with the pattern match/placement, it’s still OK I find, it could have been 10cm lower.
Lmao! Now that you said that, I do feel better. 10cm lower would have been much worse ๐ Thanks!! ๐
Really gorgeous floral among yellow and black. Congrats!
